Eureka Day
The 2025 Tony Award Winner for Best Revival of a Play
by Jonathan Spector
EUREKA DAY is a drama/comedy that dives into the fault lines of liberal America with biting wit and surprising heart. Set at a progressive private school in Berkeley, California, this social satire centers on a well-intentioned school board trying to maintain unity and inclusivity—until a mumps outbreak triggers a fierce debate over vaccinations, personal freedom, and public health.
As tensions rise and Zoom meetings spiral into chaos, EUREKA DAY becomes a hilarious and painfully timely exploration of how we communicate (or fail to) in the digital age. Jonathan Spector masterfully balances laugh-out-loud moments with thoughtful insight into privilege, identity politics, and the fragility of consensus in an increasingly polarized world.
Both sharply funny and deeply human, EUREKA DAY captures the spirit of our times and leaves audiences laughing, cringing, and reflecting on what it truly means to listen.
Directed by Michael Shaw

"Vaccine Vexation: Dezart Performs’ ‘Eureka Day’ Is a Terrific, Timely Production. Go see it!"
“Eureka Day is exactly what theater should be: it makes you laugh until you hurt, but it doesn’t shy away from the messy, human stuff either. Huge congrats to the whole team on a successful opening in the new Playhouse!”
"Director Michael Shaw has put together an ensemble that is incredibly polished. They handle the script’s intentional chaos with heart and timing, and the arguments stay sharp and trackable even as the debate turns combustible“The play leaves you with lots to think about and possibly allows some fresh perspectives to mingle with your own. This is contemporary, timely theatre at its best!”
