Dezart Performs

Points of Pride

Dezart Performs is proud of our accomplishments over the years. Here are some of them:

  • Dezart Performs is an Equity-sanctioned Small Professional Theatre.
  • Winner of 82 Desert Theatre League awards, and the 2019-2020 season garnered an additional 27 nominations, with three wins, including Outstanding Play, Drama for DANIEL’S HUSBAND. The 2021-2022 season received 15 nominations, including Outstanding Musical and Outstanding Drama.

  • We have earned a reputation for producing culturally and/or politically relevant, provocative and inspiring theatre.
  • We have produced more than 35 contemporary American plays, including many Obie and Tony Award winners and Pulitzer Prize recipients.
  • We cast locally, whenever we can, and our local artists work alongside the rich talent available from Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego theatre scenes.
  • In the 2018-2019 season, season package sales shot up 108%, and in the 2019-2020 season, they increased another 29%.
  • Overall occupancy in 2018-2019 was 96%; in 2019-2020, we exceeded that record with 100% occupancy for nearly every performance.
  • Our 40+ dedicated volunteers handle theatre administration, box office sales, and manage front of house functions, playing a vital role in Dezart Performs’ operations.
  • Our long and successful collaboration with Palm Springs High School provides students with hands- on experience as theatre interns.
  • Our scholarship program gives graduating interns a financial boost toward their theatre pursuits in college.
  • We are in the process of launching DEZART PERFORMS IN SCHOOLS, an outreach program to bring our artists to local high schools for master classes, offer partial presentations of current plays, and use theatre to provoke discussion of issues and values that are relevant to today’s youth.
  • Our fundraising increased by 62% in 2017-2018 over the previous year. In 2018-2019, it jumped a staggering 105% and it increased again by 23% in 2019-2020.
  • Thanks to a grant from the Inland Empire Community Foundation we were able to develop a Strategic Plan in 2020, mapping our course for the next five years.
  • During the pandemic shutdown, our generous donors have stuck by us, including foundations such as the Henry Bull Foundation and the Inland Empire Community Foundation, as well as a generous COVID Resilience grant from Riverside County to help us weather this unprecedented challenge.
  • We are bounding back from the past two years, with breaking a record for the number of tickets sold for our first show of the season, CHOIR BOY, which was completely sold out.
