THE SHARKS
MARIA – Bernardo’s younger sister. b soprano voice. Range: Bb3-C6.
ANITA – Bernardo’s girlfriend and Maria’s friend. b Alto (belt). Range: F3-D5.
BERNARDO – Leader of the Sharks. Limited solo singing. Range: Bb2-Eb4.
CHINO – Suitor to Maria and friend of Bernardo’s. Speaking Role. Some singing.
INDIO – Gang member, Tenor.
LUIS- Gang member, Baritone/Bass.
ROSALIA- Indio’s girlfriend, Mezzo Soprano.
CONSUELA – Pepe’s girlfriend, Alto.
FRANSISCA – Luis’ girlfriend, Soprano.
THE JETS
TONY- A romantic young man and former leader of the Jets. Falls in love with Maria. b tenor voice. Range: Bb2-Bb4.
RIFF -Tony’s best friend. b singer. Range: Bb2-G4.
ANYBODYS – A spunky tomboy who is desperate to become a member of the Jets. Speaking Role.
DIESEL – Second-in-command of the Jets. Baritone/Bass.
ACTION – The most quick-tempered member of the Jets. Tenor.
BABY JOHN – The youngest Jet. Tenor.
THE ADULTS/SPEAKING ROLES
OFFICER KRUPKE- The local beat cop. He tries to keep tensions from erupting between the Sharks and Jets. A little dorky, he is regularly mocked by the local gangs. Speaking Role.
DETECTIVE SCHRANK – A local police detective. Blunt, brash, racist, and unapologetic. Speaking Role.
DOC – The adult owner of the store where the Jets hang out. Old-fashioned and wise in his ways. Speaking Role.
